Ingredients Have Arrived: Bead Soup

Oh my! Getting a package in the mail is always a thrill… But when it is soup, and you know it is coming, the anticipation elevates.

It is Bead Soup time again. This is a ginormous undertaking by Lori Anderson of Pretty Things blog. I admire her so much, she has had a very trying journey in the past few years and I admire her determination.

I have been paired with the fabulous and talented Lea Avroch (LAJewelrydesigns.com & LAGypsyDesigns.com) she is a lampwork artist and a designer of unique upcycled sweater coats.

With anticipation, I opened the package to discover beautifully wrapped boxes… I resisted the temptation only long enough to snap a quick photo.

As I opened the gift boxes, my eyes feasted on the color explosion within. I am excited to create with the bright color palette provided by Lea! I think she should receive my soup tomorrow so it will be fun to get her reaction.

Thanks Lea! The soup is on!
Have a great day!

Bead Soup & DeStash

The past week has flown quickly by… My timing to do a huge DeStash and prepare my bead soup may not have been the best timing… But I did finally accomplish it all!

I am preparing an official post to show you the details and links for my partner fabulous Lea Avroch, she is a lampwork artist! Looking forward to some fabulous soup!

Sorry that’s so bright… Can you see what I sent her? I know! That’s because I can’t show you until she receives it!

Here is another look!

Chucking! No peeking!

The DeStash I participated in was in a private Facebook group my friend Patti organized (Facebook message me if you would like to be added). It is a great mix of vintage, jewelry supplies, beads, chain… Etc.

It took me more than 5 days to complete this DeStash and I should have scaled down a little but for my first one. It was a tad overwhelming.

Here is my pile of packages to mail and I have seven left waiting for payment!

It has been a fun experience and a great lesson.

Well, I am off and running today… I hope you have a fabulous day!

Earring Extravaganza: Ears to You Blog Hop

I am so excited to be a part of the “Ears to You” Blog Hop.

Ears To You¬ģ is a 501 non-profit corporation and its mission is to provide earrings to lift the spirits of women undergoing chemotherapy for any type of cancer.

These earrings:

~brighten a woman’s day when she needs a little lift.

~create a distraction from the IV’s, worries and fears and allow her to do something fun.

~help a woman feel more “normal” and beautiful at a time when she’s adjusting to her hair loss.

~provide hope about her situation and help her think positively.

~give encouragement from someone who has been there.

~are provided at no cost to the patient and donated WHILE she is receiving her chemo treatment.

It is such a cool organization! It makes my heart smile!

Here are some of the earrings I created in the past week… I am trying to decide what to send! As you can see, I went a little crazy!

We can send 3-5 pairs of earrings… I am excited to send at least five.

TAG: I’m It!!

Tag… I’m it!

Yesterday morning I woke up to a message in my inbox telling me I have been tagged (I’M IT!) by my friend Janet Forrest (http://tatterednworn.wordpress.com/2012/03/26/tag-im-it/)

This is a fun blog hop that allows us to share friends and gives us the opportunity to ask some fun questions that we may not normally hear the answers to.

The Rules
…you must post the rules
…answer 11 questions the tagger posted for you
…create 11 questions to ask the people you tag
…tag 11 people
…let them know you’ve tagged them

Here are the questions I was asked:

  1. If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be? Well, since too much of a good thing is not a good thing, it is hard for me to choose. My all time favorite food is Hibachi… mmmmmmmm! Hibachi it is! (someone else would be doing dishes too!)

2. When you are creating, what do you have going in the background? Television, I DVR all of my favorite shows and watch while I create.

3. Do you have a decorating style, and if so, what is it? Vintage, grungy, & distressed!

4. If you could live anywhere in world, where would it be? Gosh… With my family I would spend a month in Switzerland, two months in Hawaii, a week at Disney, a Month in Colorado, We would visit Maine and Alaska (the only two states I have not been to yet) and end back up in Minnesota for the summers.

5. What would you do with your lottery winnings? Pay off our house and establish savings, I would spend a day at the grocery store paying for groceries randomly. At Christmas time, I would randomly pay for people’s purchases to help out with holiday shopping. I would love to buy $100 gift cards and hand it to the drive through person at Caribou and ask them to pay for all the people behind me until it is gone! It would be a joy to help others and commit random acts of kindness on a daily basis.

6. What is your very favorite saying? I guess it would have to be LOL when typing, I enjoy humor and fun.

7. What are you most looking forward to? My new jewelry line release in June, 2012! Can’t wait to share it with you!

8. What is your favorite outdoor activity? Lounging in the Sun (that counts for an activity, right? LOL)

9. Do you consider yourself politically aware? Hmmm… aware, somewhat.

10. What is your most prized possession? I can’t pick a prized possession… my family is my ultimate gift… I guess photos of my kids when they were little would be a fav possession.

11. If you knew the world would end tomorrow, how would you spend today? Embracing my family.

  10. Michelle Reynolds: http://shellsinthebush.blogspot.com/
  11. Kelli May-Krenz: http://heresanotherwayoflookingatit.blogspot.com/

The questions I’ve asked them:

  1. Coffee or tea?
  2. Tell us something few people know about you.
  3. What kind of a student were you in high school?
  4. What is the bravest thing you have done?
  5. What is the proudest moment of your life so far?
  6. What does your dream vacation consist of?
  7. What is your biggest splurge?
  8. Please share with us your favorite motivational saying.
  9. You have 8 hours of free time tomorrow, what would you do with it?
  10. Rule follower or rule breaker?
  11. Who has made the biggest impact in your life?

Everyone may not have time to participate, but I hope they will. Even if they don’t, please check out their blogs… they are some pretty awesome peeps. It was hard to narrow it down to 11, was tempted to break the rules and add a few more! Have a fantastic day!

Live With Intention

Today is the Fly Tribe Word Hop… A number of us have chosen a word to guide our work this year. Find out more about the challenge here.

I struggled with selecting a word… Because it is such a huge amount of time to focus on a single word. Life changes quickly…

However I felt that the word I chose would allow me to adapt with the change that will come in the year ahead.

I selected intention. Often I will tell my kids to do something with intention. Walk with intention… purpose.

I plan on spending my time on my business with more intention… The same with my family and my life. To be in the present in each moment.

I believe that the more things we put in our plate full our lives with distraction… I am hoping to streamline my distractions this year. I have always been a big goal setter, yet I have rarely set a business goal with my jewelry. In hindsight, it is a little shocking to me.

I would love for you to check out the blogs of my friends on the link above!

Have you thought about your word for the year?

Have a fantastic day! ūüôā Kris

Spreading Our Wings Blog Hop

I am so excited about the blog hop today… for those of you who have not hopped before, a blog hop is a group of people who post blogs on the same day with a similar theme… It is so much fun! Our blog hop is about spreading our wings and inspired by our Flying Lessons Ecourse with Kelly Rae Roberts and the group of friends we have made through this class. This group of amazing artists and friends have offered encouragement, support, feedback and a safe place to launch… I am so thankful!

I believe I have always had a postive attitude and since I discovered wire, I have finally felt like I am doing what I am meant to do… create with wire. It brings me so much joy! I am living in a dream right now with my line with Demdaco/Silvestri launching… I think I always knew I could fly… The course helped nudge me along to take some of the steps with social media and organization that I was missing!

My inspiration is a bit literal… I created some jewelry that incorporates “spreading our wings”…

WHIMSICAL WING… This necklace was created using some gorgeous vintage white rose beads…

The second necklace I created is called THE KEY TO FLY… And includes a trio of pendants… A hand formed wing I created out of wire and a vintage rhinestone necklace, I wrapped each stone to create a unique sparkly wing… A skeleton key wired with rhinestones and a sweet bird stamped out of a vintage tray.

My third necklace I CAN FLY has a trio of the beautiful vintage rose beads… It is another wing… Poised for flight.

All three necklaces will be available in my etsy shop at http://www.cherishdesigns.etsy.com.

And to honor this special day, I am offering a coupon in my etsy shop! (I know, I finally, finally listed some items in etsy… I hope you enjoy!)

I connected with this amazing group of artists by taking an ecourse called Flying Lessons from
Artist, Author, & Possibilitarian Kelly Rae Roberts . This blog hop includes
some of the artists that have connected through a private facebook group. The
experience of connecting with other artists in a comfortable and supportive
setting has made such an impact on me personally. The theme of our blog hop is
Spreading Our Wings… I think you are going to be amazed by the incredible art
and inspiration that you will find on the following blogs!

Sari Ribbon Blog Hop

Sari Ribbon Party Blog Hop

Thank You Brenda from B’SueBoutiques.com for hosting this blog hop. I wanted to start by sharing with you what Sari Ribbon is… and where you can get it. B’Sue boutiques stocks it here.

It is fun to play with and there are a ton of uses for it. I bought mine shortly before Brenda announced the blog hop. I am so thankful I decided to participate in the blog hop, because I often create with more neutral colors in my jewelry and this blog hop challenged me to step into the world of color. Now as I post my photos, the colors are not showing as dynamic as they are in real life!

Sari Ribbon from B’Sue: Made in textile mills in India, these are remnants of old sari material, cut down in narrow strips and then tied or sewn together. They are frayed, tattered, skinny, wide…and completely wonderful! We offer you a 30 *foot* length, neatly curled into a ball. Within that ball you well may find earthtones, brilliant jewel tones, pastels….the colors of the rainbow, literally. Is what it is, there is no choice over color or type….and content? Well, I can’t entirely say….some of the ‘ribbon’ is cottony, some silky, some is coarse. For sure you’ll find something to love and use to good advantage!

Here is the necklace I created with Sari Ribbon. I used the gorgeous jewel tone ribbon to create the necklace. I wired my own hook clasp and incorporated the vintage pearls that I used in the pendant to add interest to the clasp. I also added some of the sari ribbon into the actual pendant as well.

I know, are you shocked, I made earrings… Simple, two vintage pearls, sari ribbon and some twists of wire. br />

And a cuff… I started with a fabulous cuff (also from B’Sue), I wrapped wire around the base of the cuff and started twirling the wire around the vintage elements and jewel toned crystals and completed the look to match the collection.

And a better view of the front…

And a totally different style, my take on the popular wrap bracelet. I took smaller crystals, 28 Gauge wire, leather & Sari… I wrapped many feet of wire & crystals around the leather & ribbon! Fun & easy!

And here is another view with my daughter modeling for me. ūüôā
