Family Love

I am excited to share a custom order I had the pleasure of creating for a special holiday gift.

Via Facebook, I reconnected with a friend I haven’t seen in years. She contacted me to create a meaningful gift for her Mom and her daughters. It had to be personal, special and hip enough to span the generations. It felt important that each of them have a matching necklace showing the family love and uniting them.

We wanted the option to wear it long or to double wrap it and wear it shorter. I created it 34″ long.

The pendant spells LOVE in a funky kind of way. I created a separate pendant with swirls and crystals, it can be worn layered as a double wrap or together hanging long, or individually.

It was so much fun to capture the love of a family that has endured and survived life’s challenges in a unified way.

It made so much sense that Mom, Daughter & Granddaughters have matching necklaces.

I hope they are treasured for many, many years to come. Thanks Lori, for the honor of capturing Family Love!

Have an incredible day!
🙂 Kris

Recap: Holiday Open House & ER

I am waking up so thankful for the day, family, friends and life. In the wake of the Nation’s tragedy, my day is a drop in the bucket. My heart is so thankful, grateful while filled with sadness for the pain that so many are hurting.

I think my friend Liv has a fantastic quote:

Liv has a fantastic new opportunity available called The Limelight Letters: Build Your Buzz, Rock Your Brand! Love her outlook!

Yesterday started with me taking the chickadoodle for X-ray’s on her hand from a hockey injury that was not improving. Thankfully there were no broken bones!

I scrambled through the day to finish preparing for my Holiday Open House! I am thankful to my friend Gina for helping me with last minute prep.

It was a joyful stream of awesome friends/customers..

It is so much fun for me to see people try on my jewelry! Such a joy!

During my open house I got a call that Keegan had been hurt and that I should come. He was about a half an hour away, Must say it was the longest drive of my life.

I am so thankful for my friends Sheila, Lori, Shawn & Tonya for allowing me to run out of the house and taking care if my business!!

Keegan’s finger was slammed in a heavy locker room door at the ice arena. They called an ambulance, but thankfully our friend Jessie was there and she is a nurse. It was so incredible to know that Keegan was not with strangers. His finger was pretty bad but they called off the ambulance and allowed me to take him in.

We spent a few long hours in the emergency room and returned home at midnight. His tip of his bone was crushed, finger was lacerated and his fingernail smashed. He was a trooper!

Thankfully he is still able to play Xbox despite the fact that it is his “trigger” finger! So he is happy this morning.

Thank you to all who joined us last night! Let me know if you would like to be added to my Holiday Blast Email sale!

Our River Bluff Christmas Tree

Yesterday we had an unusual open afternoon, and it was a prime opportunity to go find a Christmas Tree. Sadly our local tree farm closed a couple years ago. Tom discovered a new tree farm and so we ventured off, excited and unsure of what we were about to experience! Boy were we in for a treat at The River Bluff Tree Farm in St. Cloud!

The festive atmosphere greeted you as you entered the barn. Cookies, cider and candy canes… Buffalo jerky, holiday music and the feeling of excitement for the season was in the air.

You could take a horse drawn wagon or walk yourself, we chose to walk.

It was a fun search to find the perfect tree…

20121203-071711.jpg {Too small.}

Our search has been an ongoing challenge to get a tree high enough to touch our ceiling.

It’s pretty hard to judge out in the field how tall a tree is.

After a pretty amicable discussion, everyone agreed we found the perfect tree!

Now to cut it down…

For the first time, our kids cut the tree down on their own… It was a sight to see and I must say I had the chuckles. It was a perfect lesson in team building.

As one would pull, the other would get tugged forward… It was so funny! After a little learning curve, the process got smoother and… Timber! Their efforts were successful.

Ahaaaaa! And now to get it back to the barn…
(Again we choose to drag it ourselves- however being the official photographer has its benefits!)

There were so many favorite parts of this experience, but this is one of them!

[Probably because I wasn’t doing much of the carrying, I was great at holding the saw though!]

We ran into some hockey friends and they snapped a quick picture of us!

We had to rest along the way…

One of my favorite pics of the boys hauling the tree… Do you see them?

Ahhhhh… The barn is in sight!

And then two sweet elves in red came to help us out!

They brought it into the barn and put it onto the shaker machine.

And then they wrapped it up like a present (well, not quite a present, but it was an amazing process!) it took five friendly River Bluff Elves!

They loaded it on our trailer and we were off (after picking up some buffalo jerky and kettle corn to snack on!).

Discussion on carrying it in…

We didn’t quite meet our goal of touching the ceiling. Tom kept saying this was the easiest tree we have ever had!

Time to break out the big ladder!

Our kids did an amazing job adding lights… It was so amazing to watch them work together.

I have been fighting flu symptoms for three days so by this time I was cuddling on the couch with a blanket. I am proud to say I did not adjust a single light after they placed them… The tree is precious as it is… I am in love with its imperfection.

They are not done decorating… But it was a beautiful sight to wake up to, despite the ladder! Lol

I hope you can create some treasured holiday memories this week!

Have an incredible day! 🙂 Kris

Health, Happiness and Prosperity in 2012

Happy 2012! It amazes me the start of each new year, the hope, joy and exciting unknown… Like a new adventure.

I just have to reflect a little in all of the gifts in my life…

My husband Tom, who is the most selfless person I know, he encourages me to be a better person, supports me in my creative journey and is an amazing father.

My children, each so unique and each one has an amazing gift to share with the world… The journey to have children prepared me to be an advocate and to be a better Mom.

An amazing family, My Mom and Dad, who love me and support me through the ups and downs of life. Watching them through their journey has taught me determination and endurance. I am so thankful for their health.

My Sister, BIL and their family are all amazing. My sister encouraged me to try different styles of jewelry, and helped guide, encourage and promote my business. They are there for me at the drop of a hat. I am so grateful.

Tom’s Dad, brothers and sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews… Memories are a joy to create with you! A new memory of all of the kids catching their waffles as Tom threw them across our house was a fun tradition to behold. An amazing gift of incredible people we treasure.

Our Friends are there for us through thick and thin and so often a place to vent, bounce ideas and just be. I am blessed by you.

You, my amazing supporters, your gift to me is the time that you spend, commenting, reading my blog and being there for me. I am humbled by your time and extremely honored by your love of my creations.

My Flygirls… You are amazing, your gifts, support and encouragement!

Possibility, no one knows what the future holds, but the joy in the possibility has been an incredible gift this year through some challenging times! Thank you Angela, Demdaco/Silvestri for the possibility ahead.

and cheers to a future of

Undiscovered Joy… May it lead you on a journey filled with health, happiness and prosperity in 2012.

Joy, Peace & Love

It is hard to believe that New Year’s Eve is upon us. I love that the dawn of each new year allows us the opportunity to recreate ourselves!

Our focus at home the past few days has been preparing for my husbands family Christmas, it is our year to host.

It was time to pack up my jewelry display, which is hard because I often have someone stop and shop. I think I came up with the best of both worlds… I created a display in my built in cabinets that we designed by our entry. It did not fit my full display, but a decent selection.

Five years ago, I struggled to find a kitchen cabinet color that I loved. I knew I wanted a distressed look, I initially decided on red, like a barn red color, but started to worry that I would tire of the color. I finally settled on black. It is my favorite color.

Our friend Steve who built our cabinets had never distressed cabinets before, in fact I think the thought I was a bit crazy! So I agreed to go in and distress them myself at his shop. 13 hours of sanding with a rotary sander until my hand was about to fall off, and I was thrilled with the results!

I don’t have a great photo to share, but here is one I took at my open house.

I am still happy with my choice!

We finally had a bit of snow, my kids were so excited to wake up to a light dusting!

I hope that 2012 brings you joy, peace and love and that all of your dreams come true! 🙂 Kris

Treasured Keepsakes

I was commissioned by a friend to create a necklace using a treasured keepsake, a page from her friends Grandmother’s bible. It was an honor to create for her.

Things are settling down at home and I am starting to catch up on my sleep. Keegan is getting stronger every day, he is completely off the pain meds and just on occasional ibuprofen. I took him to watch his hockey team play a game 45 minutes away last night. It was fun for him to see his friends and it was fun for me to hear his commentary on the game. Not quite as much fun that I forgot to grab his jacket, my poor kid. We walked from our warm house into our heated garage & I was focused on getting him in the vehicle. To top it off, It was a cold arena. I had a blanket with and he fought a brave battle between between being “too cool” to have a blanket on and being comfortable! About halfway through the game I coaxed him into wearing the blanket. Not one of my best Mom moments, but we are certain to not repeat that mistake!

As we head toward the new year, I have one more Holiday event to look forward to. It is our year to host Tom’s family for Christmas. The only day without a hockey game is New Year’s Eve… And so we will be celebrating New Years and Christmas at the same time. I have quite a bit of prep to take care of for our family of 30 so you won’t be seeing much creative coming from my part of the world for a few days.

I hope you have enjoyed your holidays and are enjoying some much needed rest!

🙂 Kris

And To All A Good Night

It has been four days since my last post, I have to admit it seems more like a month of events happened during that time.

The surgery went well, thankfully Keegan did not swell like the last time, so we were very relieved. They added the plate and screws to his knee, but we’re unable to retrieve the screws from his ankles. They tried pretty hard on his left ankle, but in the end the Dr felt like it would do more harm than good at this point to remove so much bone.

Gram & Gramps made a dream come true for Keegan on his surgery day when Grandma called him to share that she had a surprise for him when he got home, an Xbox 360. He was so excited and it was helpful to remind him throughout the challenging events he faced. Our evening in the hospital was share by our Niece and her husband Brad & Sarah. They treated Keegan like royalty.

The nursing staff was amazing… So helpful and nurturing. We also had a little jewelry shopping in our room when we arrived. They noticed my jewelry the day before at the preop appt. and asked me to bring some of my jewelry. 🙂 it was so much fun sharing my work with them!

Keegan came home on crutches with one leg bandaged rather than two. I think the recovery would have been so much harder with both legs bandaged. We had another huge success in that Keegan is having NO trouble sleeping and we are pretty certain that the culprit in the past two surgeries was vicodin! His past two surgeries were followed by severe sleeping difficulty. For approximately 6 months after his first surgery he could only sleep 2-3 hours per night. The second surgery it started as soon as we got home and after a day or two I started researching the pain meds and found that Vicodin has that reaction with some people. We requested no Vicodin this time and he is sleeping like a dream!

He amazes me on a daily basis… So many times he thanked me for helping him… Adjust his legs, sleep on the floor by him, wake him up every 2 hours for his pain meds, rub his toes to help with the cramping. I totally appreciate his gratitude and am so proud of him in this journey.

I wanted to share a holiday tradition that we started in 2000, when Kya was just a few weeks old

We created a family tablecloth that appears at many holidays that we sign each year using permanent markers.(place a book or magazine to prevent bleeds).

We write a note of gratitude, memory or trace hands, draw a little picture… Whatever speaks to use. We treasure notes from our two Grandmas who have now passed… Admire the tiny handprints and read our notes of the past eleven years.

It’s not fancy, but it is a family treasure…

I hope you have enjoyed the holidays with your loved ones… Happy Holidays My Friends! 🙂 Kris

Wrapping is Exhausting!

Before we were married 18 and a half years ago, I agreed to have a home that our kids could play “ball” in the house… While at times it has been challenging and I do occasionally put my foot down (no golf balls or baseballs 🙂 ) last night I watched with humor as the boys started with a birdie over the railing…

and ended with a balloon & rackets using my jewelry display as a net.

Such great memories… I remember so clearly the hours of fun we could enjoy with a balloon.

I am really enjoying the ages of my children… They LOVE wrapping presents! They kept asking me for more to wrap…

We did discover that it is quite exhausting!

In fact, my little chick-a-doodle fell asleep mid-wrap!

May your days bring you an abundance of joy! 🙂 Kris

And The Winners Are…

5 hockey games, 4 orders completed, 3 kiddos sleeping, 2 Boys Choir Concerts, and a cat in the Chriiiist-mas Treeeeeee ( well, my artificial upside down tree…. We don’t actually have our real tree yet. )

The race continues as I will need to be ready for Christmas by Tuesday Eve as Keegan’s Surgery is on Wednesday morning. I am so proud of him. He shared with me that he is not even scared yet. I asked him if he wanted me to share his caringbridge site with you. We created it as a way to keep family and friends informed of his surgery and recovery when he was 9, we had no idea how helpful it would be over that challenging week in the hospital. We will be updating it as we go and hopefully it will all go smoothly and he will not have severe swelling like he did the last time they put a plate in. I read through my old journal entries trying to find the cause of the swelling and blisters that covered his arm. I cannot find any explanation for it in my notes or in any of the records. The nurse was wondering if he had an allergic reaction to something topical during the prep. All I remember was that they could not control his pain and it is the most grueling feeling to see your child suffer. Keegan’s site is here.

Well, enough on that topic, I had a drawing from my open house for the first item from my new line with Demdaco/Silvestri… I am sorry, I
We couldn’t just draw one… We drew two names! Actually Keegan drew… It was official, I stirred the container of names and he drew without looking, twice!

And the Winners Are:

The Fabulous Kerry Peterson!!!

The Fantastic Melissa Brown!

I am so excited for you! You will each receive a piece from my new line as soon as it arrives! I will let you know when it arrives!

I hope you enjoy your day! Kris

A Glimpse- Holiday Open House

Here are photos of my display as requested… This my first time of having a display set up with our new family member, Putter. Yesterday I nicknamed him “Bratcat” Lol. He is still a kitten even though he looks like an adult. He had more fun playing with my table cloth… Kya spotted him one time with his claws hanging and the display about to tumble on him…therefore, my display looked a little more disheveled than usual.

He seemed to want to roll in the burlap… Guess what he is getting for Christmas. 🙂

It was a great evening of friends…

I am filled with gratitude for my friends who were able to stop by yesterday for my Holiday Open House. Thank You!

As I mentioned, I will be leaving my display set up for the rest of the week for some of you who had conflicts last night.

I only have seven more necklaces to complete my list of custom orders before Christmas. I will have no problem completing them prior to Christmas. 🙂 Yay!

It is such a hectic time of the year with many demands on our time. I hope you are finding a moment or two for yourself.

Enjoy today! 🙂 Kris

Candlelight & Christmas Carols

The sweetest birds flew into my possession… My friend creates them out of old file cabinets… Then she paints them fun & funky colors.

I delivered a custom order yesterday… I don’t do much hand stamping anymore since I hurt my hand last year… Now Tom does it for me. 🙂 I am so grateful that he doesn’t mind. This set of necklaces have N 2 B stamped on them… A reminder that you “Need To Breathe”.

In total, I created 11 necklaces for her to give to her friends and family. It’s kind of fun to be a part of Holiday giving.

Last Night was the Ceremony of Carols Concert for the St. Johns Boys Choir at St. Mary’s Cathedral.

It is a beautiful venue for an amazing performance. The evening starts off with the boys walking in singing beautifully, holding a candle, one by one they walk up on either side of the cathedral.

Here is Sawyer… In the huge cathedral, it was glorious that my son happened to end up singing to our row, with his sweet smile on his face.

They later sang from the balcony…

After Intermission, the boys sang in full tuxedos including red cumberbund and bowtie.

Tonight is my open house… Last year we had a blizzard for my open house… The weather looks great for tonight! I am going to leave my display set up for a week or so since it is such a busy time of the year.

I hope you have an amazing day! 🙂 Kris

Fa La La La La… La La… La… La!

The holidays would just not be the same without holiday music!

One of my favorite traditions growing up was singing the 12 days of Christmas with my family.

It was H I L A R I O U S!!

and I am not being mean!

I think it is one of my funniest memories with my whole family growing up.

As kids, we would write down on 12 slips of paper, one verse of the song…

5 golden rings

       four calling birds

              three french hens

                       two turtle doves

and a partridge in a pear tree!

We would walk around the room and everyone would draw their verse. I don’t recall ever having fewer than 12, but I do know that sometimes two people would sing together.

Everyone would sing, “On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me”

The person who got “partidge in a pear tree” would start us off.

We would roll with laughter…

some would sing off key,

some would forget that it was their turn…

all in all it was such a fun song to share! I just happened to realize that there will be 12 of us for Christmas this year… wondering if we shouldn’t bring back old traditions!

Another terrific tradition we started years ago at Thanksgiving, but could be done at Christmas was to purchase a White Table Cloth… Every year we bring out markers and write the year and what we are thankful for. The kids would sign it or draw a small picture. We have our Grandparents signatures before they passed and some terrific memories of years past on that tablecloth… It is never to late to start a new tradition!

Thinking about Traditions… Next year we will have to adjust our traditional Christmas Eve get together with our family to accomodate for the St. John’s Boy’s Choir Christmas Eve Midnight Mass for Sawyer. Call time this year for the Concert Choir is very early in the evening, 6:30 pm… So we are relishing the Christmas Eve Celebration this year.

I hope that you continue your holiday traditions and start some new ways to celebrate this year! Happy Holidays! Kris

Wrapping it Up… I’m a Bag Lady This Year!

I love the hustle and bustle of the holidays… for some reason the holiday prep time passed even more quickly than usual… I keep joking with my friends who know me very well, I guess I should probably start Christmas Shopping now! Some of them look at me to see if I am really serious (because in all reality, it would not shock them! LOL)

Actually there have been years where I have started this late!! Thankfully not this year!

Actually, I am in better shape that I have been in a long time, however there are only a couple of days before Christmas, so I do have an overwhelming amount of wrapping to do. My kids are a fantastic help, but I have decided to be a bag lady! I bought a ton of krafty bags with some cute holiday vintage looking ornaments, ribbon and tissue and I will be lovingly plopping them in bags this year! I will be shaving hours off my wrapping time! Yahooo! and most of those hours would be during the wee hours of the morning while my kidlets are asleep, so more zzz’s for me!

So I now proclaim… I am a bag lady and I am proud of it!

Hope you have fun wrappin’ it all up!!! Don’t be afraid to join the bag lady bandwagon!!! Kris
