Ingredients Have Arrived: Bead Soup

Oh my! Getting a package in the mail is always a thrill… But when it is soup, and you know it is coming, the anticipation elevates.

It is Bead Soup time again. This is a ginormous undertaking by Lori Anderson of Pretty Things blog. I admire her so much, she has had a very trying journey in the past few years and I admire her determination.

I have been paired with the fabulous and talented Lea Avroch (LAJewelrydesigns.com & LAGypsyDesigns.com) she is a lampwork artist and a designer of unique upcycled sweater coats.

20140320-121229.jpg

With anticipation, I opened the package to discover beautifully wrapped boxes… I resisted the temptation only long enough to snap a quick photo.

As I opened the gift boxes, my eyes feasted on the color explosion within. I am excited to create with the bright color palette provided by Lea! I think she should receive my soup tomorrow so it will be fun to get her reaction.

Thanks Lea! The soup is on!
Have a great day!

Bead Soup & DeStash

The past week has flown quickly by… My timing to do a huge DeStash and prepare my bead soup may not have been the best timing… But I did finally accomplish it all!

I am preparing an official post to show you the details and links for my partner fabulous Lea Avroch, she is a lampwork artist! Looking forward to some fabulous soup!

20140317-110621.jpg

Sorry that’s so bright… Can you see what I sent her? I know! That’s because I can’t show you until she receives it!

Here is another look!

20140317-110902.jpg

Chucking! No peeking!

The DeStash I participated in was in a private Facebook group my friend Patti organized (Facebook message me if you would like to be added). It is a great mix of vintage, jewelry supplies, beads, chain… Etc.

It took me more than 5 days to complete this DeStash and I should have scaled down a little but for my first one. It was a tad overwhelming.

20140317-111359.jpg

Here is my pile of packages to mail and I have seven left waiting for payment!

It has been a fun experience and a great lesson.

Well, I am off and running today… I hope you have a fabulous day!

Bead Soup Reveal: It’s Finally Here!

Welcome friends. I am super excited about this bead soup reveal! A huge THANK YOU to beautiful Lori Anderson, Author, blogger, Facebook facilitator, inspiration and Dynamo. Lori’s Bead Soup Blog hop has grown to quite an incredible party. Despite obstacles and challenges in her life, she is incredibly dedicated and diligent about hosting an amazing party with three reveal dates.

20130329-193927.jpg

Here is Lori’s book about bead soup. I encourage you to buy it directly from Lori via the link further down in the post. (It is a fantastic book and I am so happy for her!)

This is my second time participating and I was paired with an incredibly talented partner, Sandi Volpe. Here is my Meet Sandi Blog post.

The soup she sent me was Delish!!

20130329-194410.jpg

To begin with, I fell in LOVE with Sandi’s work. I love the beautiful head pins she made and her gorgeous glasswork! You will be happy to know that she listed some headpins in her etsy shop, so feel free to shop!!

Sandi sent me an abundance of ingredients. I used quite a bit of it, there are a few items I am looking forward to playing with in the future.

20130329-195030.jpg

We are fellow fly sisters, both Sandi and I took Kelly Rae Roberts Flying Lessons Class and so the gorgeous fly focal was very meaningful to me.

20130329-195349.jpg

There are more photos of the soup I received on the link above. Please visit Sandi and see what soup she whipped up here.

When I signed up for the soup, I was not aware that my son would be having surgery just before the reveal date. We had plenty of time to create and photograph prior, but I must say, had I allowed myself a little more extra time, I would have tweaked my design just a tad. (We arrived home from the hospital this afternoon and my son is doing so well after 5 incisions, 6 screws and a plate being removed.) I will be hopping and visiting each of the participants, but it may take me a few days!

Okay, a little about me. I call myself a jewelry junkie… I have loved jewelry my entire life. I have redesigned and created jewelry for many years. After encouragement from my friends, I started selling my jewelry in 2007.

I am a wire addict and I love using vintage and unique elements in my jewelry. I also am fortunate to sell my jewelry wholesale to boutiques and to have secured a couple of art licensing agreements with major gift manufacturers. My most recent work is manufactured by Creative Co-op and sold nationwide. It is such a thrill!

Okay… On to the reveal:

I love versatile jewelry,,, jewelry that can be worn in more than one way. I hope you will be able to see the versatility in the photos.

20130329-201900.jpg

The first necklace is the most complex:

20130329-202028.jpg

This photo shows a trio of delicate chain I added with a matte black lobster clasp. There are actually three pendants hanging down and I wanted to be able to switch them out with ease. I can wear all three or a single pendant.

Here are the individual pendants:

The first one Sandi shared the gorgeous lamp work bead from Heather of HMB studiosย and she hand wired and beaded an intricate weaving of seed beads. It is so beautifully made. I wired the top section and created an open bail. I also tied some of the beautiful sari silk from Sandi’s packaging onto the wire.

20130329-204829.jpg

The second pendant I created with gorgeous Fly pendant Sandi gave me that was created by Barbara Bechtel of Second Surf Studio.

20130329-205545.jpg

The third in the trio of pendants I created with one of Sandi’s super cool head pins. I love the circular swirls, Total Love! I also used the swirl as inspiration for the chain I made on the left side of the necklace.

Each of the pendants in the trio can be worn individually on a chain. Love the flexibility!

20130329-210041.jpg

So I mentioned the swirl chain…
I incorporated Sandi’s beautiful lamp work beads with the swirl link chain I created. On the right side you see the nest I hand wired with a trio of crystals and a bird made from a vintage serving tray (I had to add a little vintage love). Above the nest is the cool faceted labrodite.

20130329-211032.jpg

The next photo shows the beautifully beaded clasp Sandi wired with delicate seed beads, it is so intricate and well made. I opted to create a wired hook to connect to the clasp for a little more flexibility in the finished design.

20130329-211823.jpg

Here are a few other ways to wear this necklace…

20130329-212240.jpg It can clasp like a choker…

20130329-212554.jpg and clasp it shorter than the original style.

I also created a more delicate necklace with the second of Sandi’s headpins. It is shown layered with the necklace attached above the nest rather than below the nest.

20130329-213339.jpg

I also created a pair of earrings with some of the beads I had remaining. I added more of the sari silk.

20130329-213547.jpg

And a final photo of both necklaces layered on my fav dress form.

Finally, please visit Sandi and the other fabulous participants listed on Lori’s blog here.

Thanks you for subscribing to my blog, liking my page on Facebook and follow me on Pinterest, my etsy shop orย twitter!

Thanks for putting up with my incredibly long post!
Have a FUNtastic time hopping and may you have a hoppy Easter!

BeadSoup-a-licious: Meet Sandi

I am excited to introduce you to my Bead Soup Blog Party Partner Sandi Volpe.

I am thrilled to meet Sandi! We have a lot in common!

MEET SANDI:

I am mom of three boys, 15, 13 and 8 living in a soccer obsessed household in Northern Virginia outside of DC.

I have always collected interesting jewelry and made earrings with my mom’s vintage crystals and re-did jewelry pieces I owned. I designed my engagement ring with sapphires from earrings my mom gave me and re-designed them too.

I decided to stay home after 2 jobs and 2 boys wasn’t working any more. I knew it was the right decision I because I was on a dream project at the Library of Congress working on a digital library for the Motion Picture and Recorded Sound division, but knew I could not keep up the pace of the commute, etc.

I promised I would give myself at least of year of being a stay at home mom before considering work, that was 12 years ago and I took longer than a year to decide as I had my third baby.

I looked in to all the check book parties like tupperware etc. I hosted a Silpada party and decided I would rather design and make my own jewelry, so that’s what motivated me to start.

I started stringing and soldering pendants and I loved it. I have been taking classes and honing my metal smithing and wire working skills and now lamp working. I love lamp work beads and decided to try my hand making them. I love making the entire piece.

This is my 5th bead soup party and I am lucky enough to see Lori on a regular basis as she lives 1.5 hours away.

I love the creative process and have met some amazing women through the BSBP as well as artBliss which is a retreat that is 10 minutes from my house. I have such easy access to classes in Virginia and can go to Bead Fest in Philly too.

I am hoping to create a more cohesive line this year and up production.

SOUP REVEAL:
And now I would like to show you the fantastic bead soup I received from Sandi!

20130225-082151.jpg

Our reveal date is March 30th, so be sure to subscribe or bookmark my blog to see what we come up with! Also please check out Sandi’s blog to check out her creations with the soup I sent her! {I’ll reveal the soup I sent her in the next day or two and the final reveal will be 3/30/13.}

20130225-082107.jpg

Sandi sent a fantastic soup and I am going to have so much fun with it!

20130225-082457.jpg

I cannot tell you how excited I am by the elements she created for me and the gorgeous supporting materials.

To begin with I received the fabulous lamp work and enamel work she sent. I was in awe when I unwrapped them! I am excited about the waxed linen, as I have not created with it yet and will enjoy the challenge!

20130225-083018.jpg

On the left, you will see her delicate craftsmanship in the clasp she created for me. I love the fly pendant too! Sandi and I are both took “flying lessons” and we have that experience in common.

20130225-083901.jpg

And Sandi picked up on my Addiction for all things vintage and added some vintage love in her soup!

I am so excited to begin creating! Thank you Sandi for the FUNtastic elements to work with!!

{weekend update}
As I mentioned the other day, Kya’s hockey team had game four of district playoffs on Friday night. Kya had a terrific game scoring the second goal of the game and almost scoring to tie the game, but it was not meant to be. They lost 2-3 ending their season. It was especially sad because they won’t be playing together until high school. Our pace will slow down now without hockey practice and games!!! Whew!

Saturday was a highlight with her volleyball team moving up to Gold level and taking first place. Their first time winning championship in Gold!

Life is all about the lessons learned in losing and winning… But there is more to life than the wins and the losses… Being thankful for opportunities, teamwork, the ability to learn and grow and develop long lasting friendships… That’s what I am grateful for!

It is official, I mentioned a few months ago that Keegan has to have another surgery for his MHE (bone tumors that are not malignant but grow at the growth plates). He is scheduled for March 28, he will have the pins in his ankles removed (this is going to be pretty invasive and land him on crutches for another 4-6 weeks) and they will remove the 8-plate above his knee. The great news is that he will be hardware free for the first time since he was 9 years old, he is now 14! Guess we will need to prepare our living room to be an Xbox game room over Easter break!

I hope you have a fantastic Monday!
